Help test the Android build

Android and Android TV are still in beta, and we are putting a tester group together for the Play Store listing. Send us the address your Google Play account uses and we will add you. Android only for now: every other build on this page installs without an invitation.

Installing on Windows

Run the installer to get started. Uninstall from Windows Settings → Apps.

Windows will warn you

The installer is not code-signed yet, so the first run shows “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info, then Run anyway. If you want to be sure the file is the one we published, compare its checksum first.

What it installs

  • Lumen.exethe app
  • lumen-relay.exeoptional: run your own sync relay
  • libmpv-2.dllthe playback engine, with the app's runtime files
  • README.txt, CHANGELOG.md, THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.mdnotes and licenses

Everything lands in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Lumen. Nothing is written outside your user profile, and uninstalling removes only what the installer put there.

Installing on Android

Sideloading, either from the device itself or from a computer. Android asks once for permission; that is normal.

On a phone or tablet

  1. Download the APK on the device.
  2. Open it from the download notification or your file manager.
  3. Allow installs from that app when Android asks, then tap Install.
  4. Open Lumen. Updates work the same way: install the new APK over the old one.

On Android TV, with a file manager

  1. Copy the APK to a USB stick or a network share the TV can reach.
  2. Open it with a file manager on the TV and choose Install.
  3. Lumen appears in the TV launcher, built for the remote, with an on-screen keyboard.

On Android TV, from a computer

  1. On the TV, enable Developer options and USB or network debugging.
  2. From a computer on the same network, with the Android platform tools installed:
adb connect <tv-ip-address>
adb install lumen-1.0.4-arm64-v8a.apk

Installing on macOS

Unzip it, move the app to Applications, and allow the first launch. Nothing is installed outside the app bundle.

Installing it

  1. Download the ZIP and open it. Lumen.app appears beside it.
  2. Drag Lumen.app into your Applications folder.
  3. Delete the ZIP; everything the app needs is inside the bundle.
  4. Updates work the same way: replace Lumen.app with the newer one.

Opening it the first time

  1. Open Lumen from Applications. macOS refuses it and says why.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down.
  3. Choose Open Anyway beside the message about Lumen, then confirm.
  4. Lumen opens like any other app from then on.

What is in the bundle

  • Lumen.appthe app, one binary for Apple silicon and Intel
  • Mpv.frameworkthe playback engine, with FFmpeg, inside the bundle

Settings and your library live in your user Library folder, and dragging Lumen to the Trash removes the app. The optional self-hosted relay ships with the Windows build only.

Installing on iOS and iPadOS

The IPA is unsigned, so Safari cannot open it and there is no App Store listing yet. You sign it with your own Apple Account on a computer, then install it on the device.

On a Mac or PC

  1. Download the IPA on the computer, not on the phone.
  2. Install a tool that signs with an Apple Account. AltStore and Sideloadly both do, on macOS and on Windows.
  3. Connect the iPhone or iPad by cable and trust the computer when it asks.
  4. Sign in with your Apple Account in the tool, choose the IPA, and let it install.

On the iPhone or iPad

  1. On iOS 16 and newer, turn on Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode and restart when asked.
  2. Open Settings → General → VPN & Device Management.
  3. Tap your Apple Account under Developer App and choose Trust.
  4. Open Lumen and allow it to find devices on your local network, which is how it pairs and works as a remote.

Keeping it installed

  1. With a free account, sign it again every seven days. AltStore can refresh it over Wi-Fi.
  2. With an Apple Developer account the signature lasts a year, and Xcode or Apple Configurator can install it.
  3. A new version installs the same way, over the old one.

The signature is made on your computer, with your account. Nothing about it reaches us.

Package managers and scripts

One JSON file carries every URL, checksum and size, so nothing has to scrape this page.

winget

A winget package (Lumen.Lumen) is prepared and will be listed here once it is accepted into the community repository.

Release feed

The feed carries the version, the build number, the release date, a link to the notes, and the URL, SHA-256 and size of every file.

Previous versions

Older releases stay downloadable, and the licenses page keeps the engine sources for each of them.
